5 Summer Skin Tips

We’ve all been waiting patiently for summer to arrive. The warm summer months can be hard on our skin. Follow these five summer skin tips to prepare and protect your skin from the high temps and harsh rays.

Drink water!

Your mom always told you “Drink more water! Drink more water!” Your Esthetician will tell you the same thing. A dehydrated body means dehydrated skin. Dehydrated skin is a condition (not a skin type) that can result in unwanted wrinkles and the inability for your skin to naturally regulate its moisture content. Drinking a healthy amount of water will also help to flush out impurities and toxins in the body and your skin.

Apply and then reapply…reapply…reapply your sunblock.

Apply a full-spectrum sun block (not to be confused with a sunscreen which contains harmful chemicals) with an SPF 30 every hour while working our playing outside. Time, humidity, contact with water, and other factors will reduce the effectiveness of your sun protection. Also, don’t forget your scalp! Find a sunblock that pumps (such as Image’s Ultra Sheer Spray SPF 45) and apply it to your scalp before heading out into the warm summer rays. We often forget to protect the skin on our head as well as our face and body. Remember – the sun damage you create now will likely not show up on your skin for at least 10 years. That means the sun damage you can visibly see now is a result of a burn from your past. Plan for a healthy and risk-reduced future by taking as many precautions as you can now.

Exfoliate – out with the old and reveal the new!

Exfoliation (the removal of dead, dull skin) is the best way to achieve smoother and more even-toned skin. It also allows the products you apply to your skin to penetrate on a deeper level, making them more effective. A facial is the perfect way to achieve a professional exfoliation for your face and neck. A facial also includes an application of the nutrients and hydration your skin needs. A body wrap treatment is ideal for an all-over body exfoliation. You should exfoliate twice a week at home in between facials in order to maintain the smooth and even skin tone your Esthetician helped you achieve.

Protect your baby blues (or browns or greens…).

We often forget how fragile and delicate our eyes and the skin around them are. The eyes are one of the first parts of the body to show signs of aging. They are also the most susceptible to UV damage. Protect your eyes by applying an eye cream containing an SPF daily and wearing sunglasses with UV protection.

Amp up your antioxidants!

Antioxidants are a no brainer! They help to protect your skin from sun damage and skin cancer. Look for products that are high in antioxidants and lather up before applying your sunblock and heading out the door.

Schedule a facial or specialized skin treatment with one of our skilled Estheticians to discover for yourself the power of skin care!
